True confessions time….I both LOVE and HATE owning my own business, Confections. Now I am lucky that the love does outweigh the hate. I love the creativity, working with my clients, crafting strategies for the business, getting great press for my company, finding new gifts to personalize. But I hate the accounting, not so fond of having to worry about getting the quarterly taxes paid on time, really dislike having to shop around our business insurance, you can see what I mean. Now I am pretty sure that what I dislike about owning the business is the same thing that many entrepreneurs don’t like either. Who opens their own business to spend time working on Quickbooks (unless of course you are an accountant)? I am would go as far as to say that no one, no matter what you do likes filing quarterly taxes. Part of owning the business is being responsible for everything, regardless if you like it or not.
But, owning your own business is also an incredible experience and if you can find something you love enough and you think you can make money at it then go for it. Knowing what I know now about the business I would have made some different decisions (20/20 hindsight and all that), but I cannot imagine doing anything else. One of the things that I love about being an entrepreneur is talking to others who are in the same boat. It is so interesting to me how many different types of businesses are out there and as entrepreneurs we all face similar challenges. I was lucky enough to find a dynamic group called ‘Prenuer which is an online community that is built for and around entrepreneurs. Through this site I have found great advice, leads for getting press and much more. I have been very impressed with everyone from the group that I have had contact with. And let me tell you, there are some incredible people in that group.
So with that set up you can imagine how flattered I was to be the ‘Prenuer of the Week this week. I actually blushed when I saw it on the front page. Of course then I called my entire family so they could see it too.
Moral of the blog…being and entrepreneur is a wild ride. But finding great resources such as ‘Prenuer does make it a lot easier.
